Located at 2222 North Santiago Boulevard, Orange Lutheran High School has been responding to the call for an academically-sound Christ-centered education since 1973. Famous for its athletic and arts departments, the school continuously succeeds at graduating seniors who strive for excellence and integrity. When it came time to add new Orange County school signs that would make the campus easy to navigate for students, faculty and parents, the administration contacted Superior Signs and Graphics.
Being the largest Lutheran high school in the OC, Orange Lutheran initially hired us to do some A-frame markers for the campus’ Welcome Center. These markers were designed to help direct potential students during an open house event at the facility. Having had a positive experience with our professionals, the school invited us to come back for a much larger project: wayfinding and directional signs. For high schools in Orange County, these markers usually point to a variety of on-campus locations that are frequented often.
In this case, the signage overhaul also served to alert visitors to a change in entrances. Although the original door is still located at the front of the building, the new entrance way is now in use. Then, there were the signs that would identify particular departments. All signs had to match and present the facility with a harmonious appearance that is as attractive as it is functional. Altogether, we sketched, manufactured and installed about 100 signs for the campus. The majority of the markers are blade signs that mount perpendicular to the walls.
This makes it easy to locate the right destination simply by walking down a corridor. We augmented this look with hanging directional signs. These markers feature arrows for easy wayfinding directions. Since branding is very important in this setting, we included the famous circular logo that identifies Orange Lutheran High School. To add a visual appeal to the markers, we attached the logos to the faces of the signs. Taking this approach gives them a dimensional appearance. For durability and budget friendliness, we constructed these signs from aluminum composite. They are impervious to insect damage and will look great for many years – or decades – to come.
To accommodate the school’s academic schedule, we scheduled the installation of the signage for the last week of winter break. With the administration being back in the building but the students still enjoying a week of rest, we were able to get the entire process finished without inconveniencing faculty or learners. These new markers look attractive, grab the eye, make wayfinding a snap and also add a contemporary appearance to the campus. When you walk the campus, you will notice that the cohesive look of the signage greatly enhances the already very attractive campus design.
