Located at 1724-1736 West Ball Road, The Palms Apartments used to be known as the San Marino Apartments. Built in 1959 and offering two stories of apartment homes, this property featured a somewhat outdated post and panel sign that incorporated a palm tree as part of the marker. When the building’s management professionals decided to rename the venue and rebrand its signage accordingly, a representative contacted our full-service sign shop to discuss a low-cost sign makeover for apartment complexes in Anaheim, CA.
We met with the professional and got to work. After ensuring that the sign was structurally sound, we cut off the contour-cut palm top from the panel. We worked with our client to design a graphics product that is contemporary and instantly gives the venue a facelift. Our technicians painted the post and panel setup while our artists created two 3-mm aluminum composite boards featuring laminated graphics with the site’s new name and logo design. Installation experts then glued these products to the existing panel and secured it with screws. This sign now looks fresh, modern, and – best of all – cost less than $750 to complete.
Typically, there are few reasons when we strongly urge our clients to consider the purchase of a new sign rather than refurbishing an existing marker. When the sign proves to be structurally unsafe or not within code compliance, it is usually better to take it down and start over. But even if the sign’s structure is excellent, there is a time when starting over makes the most sense: costs. If it costs more to refurbish the product than it would to design, manufacture, and install a new one, it makes sense to opt for the redo rather than the update. Of course, you have always have the final say.
