Well we just did our first sectional garage door wrap at a residence in La Mirada, CA, and it made me reflect back on some of the different types of things that we have wrapped this year. Of course we get regular requests to wrap cars, trucks, and vans like most wrap companies do, and we have done all kinds of vehicle makes and models. We have done wraps to protect vehicle paint jobs and to change the color of vehicles, even when no advertising was requested or desired. And of course, our specialty is well designed and attention getting commercial wraps that take advantage of existing vehicle assets to market products and services to commuters.
Although those are the norm, we regularly get requests to wrap all kinds of things that are not of a vehicular nature. The garage door wrap was a perfect example…the customer had a white stamped metal sectional garage door that they had purchased years earlier – and it was in very good shape. They desired a wood look to stand out from the neighbors and to accent their wood front door and stamped concrete driveway, but did not want to throw away a perfectly good door nor pay several thousand dollars for a wood look door that did not match the colors and grain that they wanted.
We love a challenge so when the customer came to us and challenged us to wrap the door in a color and grain that they liked, we jumped on the opportunity! We had the customer bring measurements and ideas down to our shop and there he was able to sit with our Graphic Designer and choose exactly the style, grain and color that he wanted. Once the right high-resolution photo was purchased from an online photo site, we started adjusting the size and color hues to meet the customer’s needs. We used a high quality 3M cast wrap vinyl and UV protecting laminate to ensure the wrap would conform to the texture and grooves in the door, and would last for years. The result was amazing and the customer’s expectations were exceeded!
So what else have we wrapped this year? Well wall graphics are not totally unusual, but we have done full hallways, store entrances and realtor lobbies in a number of interesting designs including photo collages and Orange Groves. We have done full vinyl window wraps that are so realistic that it looks like you are looking through a window into the store – as well as perforated window wraps that truly do give outward visibility. We have wrapped vending machines, a stage trailer for the City of Buena Park, fuel pumps for EDCO’s CNG station, an old style photobooth for the WWE Summer Slam at Staples, rear windows of trucks, electrical boxes, closet doors, trade show booths, and even bathroom walls!
Basically, we have met every customer request for a strange item to be wrapped with the excitement of a kid that was just challenged with a dare! We know there are some things that cannot be wrapped, but we haven’t run into one yet!
