Sprucing up your garage door can be as simple as installing a vinyl wrap. These durable and weatherproofed wraps are a great option if you are looking for an easy way to add a little bit of life to your door, or even cover up a door that is damaged or outdated. Although we recommend letting our certified installers tackle your garage door wraps in Orange County, here are some DIY tips!
When it comes to choices, the possibilities are endless. You may choose a wrap that adds a touch of class or maybe aim for a comedic appearance. You can even match the color and style to your front door if you so choose. It’s not uncommon to see designs that mimic ridiculous objects, such as an elephant, a train, an expensive race car, or a dump truck. However, some people opt for the more casual wrap that mimics a hardwood door or a design that compliments their home. Regardless of whether you want your neighbors to think you are storing a plane in your garage or you simply want to improve the overall look of your house, installing a wrap is an easy and affordable option to giving the door to your garage a quick makeover.
When installing a vinyl wrap, the first thing you want to do is have a professional from Superior Signs and Graphics come out and take a look at your garage door—especially how it folds. Not all doors are made the same and this is an important step to ensure the printed wrap fits your door precisely. That way, you don’t have to worry about the wrap interfering with your door’s motion. The pictures you see here are of a wrap designed and installed by Superior Signs in Orange County.
Once you have a wrap that is customized to your door, you can begin the procedure of installing it. Garage door wraps need a clean surface to stick to, so you will need to clean the door to remove any dirt or debris that would get in the way during application. You can start this process by grabbing a common household cleaner and a rag. The edges of each section need to be taken into specific consideration when cleaning.
This next step depends on the type of wrap you have. If you have peel-and-stick decals, these are similar to applying a sticker or decal. Slowly peel back the sheet to reveal the adhesive backing, applying the wrap to its desired location, one section at a time. Be sure the wrap is level and in line with the section on your door.
Although we don’t utilize Velcro to attach garage door wraps, some installers do. If you will be using Velcro, once the surface edges are thoroughly cleaned, attach a line of hook Velcro along the edges of each individual section. Next, you will need to take the fuzzy side of the Velcro and line it along the edges of each sheet of wrap. Once the Velcro is in place, all you have to do is attach the wrap to each section. When you get to the door handle, you will need to measure and cut the wrap. Now, your installation is complete and you can enjoy the new look.
Adding a wrap to the door of your garage is a rising trend and offers a great way to spice up the look of your bland door. Because these vinyl wraps offer such a diverse assortment of options, you can be sure to find a style, color, image, or design that matches your desires.
