Cool Mini-Van Wrap for the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park!

 Dec 29, 2013

We enjoy working with organizations that do important work like The Boys and Girls Club of Buena Park, CA. We have done everything from banners to wall wraps for them and enjoy some of the fun designs and finished projects. That made us even more excited to help them with their newest project to increase attendance at their club from the kids that are not within walking distance.

The Vans Have to Look Cool!

One of the things that the staff at the club consistently heard from the young teens that frequent the club was that they hated the way the passenger vans look that pick them up and drop them off at their homes. The vans all had images of young kids on them and looked like Kindercare vans. That was when the club Director came to us and said that he had a new van coming that had been donated to the club, and he did not want it to be embarrassing for kids and teens to ride in. It needed to reflect the club name and the sponsors: Simpson Buick/GMC, and The Rotary Club of Buena Park – but most important it had to look cool!

It’s All in the Wrap Design…

We wanted to keep costs down while creating an impactful wrap that was edgy and cool, so we worked with the base color of the Chrysler Mini-van – a silver. We then chose to build the design on a ¾ wrap and leave the least visible areas like the hood, front fenders and roof the original silver. This would mitigate costs and because the horizontal surfaces that wear the fastest are not being wrapped, it would mean longer wrap life. To complement the silver base color, we used black and white with grey and red accents in the wrap design.

The overall design theme is kids doing Southern California sports and activities with a wild artsy background to reflect some of the artwork you see at the club. The wrap starts low near the front and goes partway up the windows with solid vinyl. There are girls surfing and performing ballet, and boys skateboarding and riding motocross across the design.

Materials We Used

We used the rear window to showcase the two sponsors as well as to continue the design from metal to glass using a perforated vinyl with an optically clear laminate. On the vehicle itself we used a premium 3M cast wrap vinyl with a 3M luster finish overlaminate that protects the printed wrap from weather and UV rays. The quality pairing of these two wrap materials will ensure the wrap looks great and lasts for many years.

Wrap Installation by Our Experts

Once we had the design completed and approved by the customer via our online proofing process and vehicle design templates, we started producing the graphics. Our large format printing equipment produced amazing greyscales and clarity as well as color accents. Most of the wrap was full panel prints, but there were some die-cut graphics for the door overlays that we used our electronic plotter to cut.

After prepping the freshly washed vehicle for maximum wrap adhesion (a careful alcohol rubdown and removal of rear wiper and emblems), we were ready to install. Additional adhesive primer was used on the edges and seams to ensure that the wrap stayed where it was supposed to, and lots of patience and heat for the curves resulted in a bubble free wrap that looks like it was painted on!

The Finished Product

The resulting look is that of a somewhat wild wrap design that exudes youthful energy and shows Southern California kids doing fun sports. It also pays tribute to the sponsors that helped fund the wrap for The Boys and Girls Club of Buena Park. The customer loved the look and feels we hit the mark of exactly what they asked for. Most importantly, more kids will want to get a ride to the club in this van, and that means the club will have an opportunity to positively impact more local kids. And hopefully, the kids that attend the club will not be embarrassed to ride in this van!
